The challenge
The brand had built a healthy business on Meta and Google ads — but the economics were deteriorating fast. Meta CAC had climbed 40% year over year, iOS privacy changes kept degrading targeting, and roughly 90% of revenue depended on paid channels. Meanwhile, US shoppers researching supplements were typing "best magnesium for sleep" into Google — and increasingly asking ChatGPT and Perplexity the same question. The brand ranked for almost none of those queries and was never mentioned in AI answers. It needed a durable acquisition channel it actually owned.
The strategy
MindJek ran a combined e-commerce SEO and GEO program: turn the brand's genuine ingredient expertise into the most quotable, best-structured resource in its categories, so Google rankings and AI citations compound while paid spend gets smarter, not bigger.
- Technical SEO on Shopify — fixed crawl waste from filtered collections and variant URLs, cleaned canonical and internal-linking structure, and lifted Core Web Vitals across product and collection pages
- Ingredient-led topic clusters — built research-backed hubs around core ingredients and use cases (sleep, focus, recovery), each cluster funnelling authority to the money collection pages
- Product schema at scale — Product, Offer and review structured data on every SKU so listings earn rich results with price and star ratings
- GEO for AI citations — quotable, research-backed content with clear sourcing, an llms.txt file, and deliberate targeting of "best [category] supplement" questions that US buyers now ask AI assistants
- Digital PR in health publications — earned expert commentary and data-led mentions in the health and wellness outlets that both Google and LLMs treat as trusted sources
The results
Within eight months, organic revenue grew 3.2× and 62% of tracked keywords reached page one. More importantly, the channel mix transformed: organic and AI-referred traffic went from 8% of new customers to 27%. The brand is now cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity for several "best [category] supplement" queries in its niche — answers that sit at the very start of the US shopper's research journey. With a growing owned channel doing more of the acquisition work, blended CAC fell 34%, and paid budgets could be concentrated on the audiences and moments where ads genuinely outperform.

"We were one algorithm change away from a very bad quarter. Now organic and AI answers bring in customers every day — and our ad dollars finally work harder instead of just costing more."
