The challenge
In New York's immigration-law market, a mid-sized firm competes against national mega-firms that dominate the organic results and outbid everyone on ads — CPCs for terms like "immigration lawyer NYC" regularly exceed $80 a click. The firm's genuine strength was deep expertise in visa and green-card cases, but online it was effectively invisible: no featured snippets, no AI Overview presence, and map-pack rankings buried below aggregators. Prospective clients researching "how long does a green card take" or "H-1B lawyer near me" simply never encountered the firm.
The strategy
MindJek ran a combined AEO and Local SEO program: win the exact questions anxious visa applicants ask Google and AI assistants, and own the map pack in the neighborhoods the firm actually serves.
- Answer-first practice-area pages — restructured every visa and green-card page to lead with a concise, extractable answer before the legal detail, matching how US searchers phrase real questions
- FAQ schema for visa & green-card questions — marked up the firm's genuinely helpful Q&A content so it qualifies for People Also Ask, featured snippets and AI Overviews
- Attorney Person schema for E-E-A-T — structured data connecting each attorney's credentials, bar admissions and publications, signalling the expertise Google demands for legal (YMYL) topics
- GBP optimization for Manhattan + Queens — rebuilt both Google Business Profiles with correct categories, services, photos and localized posts for each office's service area
- Review engine — a compliant post-case review workflow that turned satisfied clients into a steady stream of detailed Google reviews for both locations
The results
Within six months, the firm held 24 featured snippets and AI Overview citations for immigration questions — Google's AI Overviews now cite the firm's pages when answering visa and green-card queries, placing it above even the mega-firms' listings. Both the Manhattan and Queens offices rank in the top-3 map pack for their core "immigration lawyer" searches. Consultation requests grew 2.8×, and because most of that growth came from organic and local visibility rather than $80 clicks, the cost per consultation dropped roughly 60% compared with the ads-only baseline.
